In 2024, Colorado voters approved Amendment 79, which cemented the right for abortion in our state constitution. This year, a citizen-led initiative is seeking to give Colorado voters an opportunity to reconsider that decision.

Proposed Initiative #283, titled “Repeal Constitutional Right to Abortion,” would remove this language from the Colorado Constitution. The official ballot question is:

“Shall there be an amendment to the Colorado Constitution repealing the current constitutional right to abortion?”

This initiative would not immediately prohibit abortion in Colorado or establish new restrictions, but it would remove abortion’s status as a constitutionally protected right on the state level.

Removing this provision would restore the ability of Colorado citizens and elected representatives to debate and enact protections for unborn children, women, and families.

The Bible teaches that every human life is created in the image of God and therefore possesses inherent dignity and value. I have walked alongside several couples who would desire to adopt a child. Protecting unborn children, supporting mothers, and helping children find loving homes are worthy missions for those who follow Jesus.

Declaring abortion a constitutional right places many questions about abortion policy beyond the normal legislative process.

In order for Initiative #283 to appear on the November 2026 ballot, supporters must collect the required number of signatures from registered Colorado voters.

Signing the petition helps provide Colorado voters with the opportunity to consider and decide this question in November.
